Margaret Sanger; Voyage Through Debate and Diplomacy

Young Margaret Sanger

Margaret Sanger was born in 1884 in New York. She grew up with 10 siblings. Her mother was a devout Catholic while her father's individual care free ways inspired her to be a free-thinker. Her father had supported woman's suffrage, tax reform, and other radical reforms. All of these beliefs had influenced Margaret to become an individual. Margaret Sanger's mother had faced an early death in 1896 from tuberculosis. Her mother's death had said to be caused from her frequent child births. Sanger recognized the lack of knowledge in America's medical field.

After becoming inspired to add depth and dimension to her knowledge of biology/medicines she traveled to White Plains, New York to begin nurse training. Her work took part in Eastern New York where the living conditions were very harsh and inadequate. There she saw women partaking in unhealthy and unsafe practices to perform abortions. The sightings there had caused Sanger to develop her birth control philosophies.

Margaet Sanger had later married William Sanger in 1902. A  couple years after their marriage she had given birth to two boys. A girl was born too, but died in infancy.
